We work with customers every day and guide them through the process of selecting a rug, sharing our knowledge and understanding of how a Bunyaad rug is made and able to withstand many years of active living. Our favorite stories to tell though are those we hear from our customers who own a Bunyaad rug. These stories best answer the questions above as they show how you can find a rug to fit your home and your lifestyle.

Wanessa, our accountant here at the Bunyaad Rug Room at Ten Thousand Villages in Ephrata, shares how she found the rug that answered all of her “a rug should” expectations.

“I’m in love with my rug and very happy to share with you!

Even more than furniture, a rug can have a huge impact on the look of a space. The rug I bought was for my living room. I knew it should be durable and easy to clean. We use our living room all the time and I didn’t want to see the dirt easily. I want my family and friends to enjoy my house instead of being concerned about dropping things on my rug.

I had a low quality rug in my living room before. I could not make it to stay flat, no matter what I tried. I had furniture on top of it and I even hammered some nails through it and into my floor but my old rug didn’t stay the way it was supposed to.

Bunyaad rugs are durable and exceptional quality, which you really don’t find too many places. The Chobis are known by being firm and sturdy and in my opinion, they are one of the best options when are placing your rug on top of wall-to-wall carpet. The Chobi lies flat and straight. They have muted modern neutral colors which are by far what I like most. They simply work in any space.

Another reason I chose my rug was the color. I chose this specific rug because I had a color in mind. The color green! Yes green! In my opinion green is one of the most important colors in a house. Green is the color of nature and it brings a lot of balance and harmony to a room. It gives a refreshing statement that reflects one of the most natural and abundant colors in nature, which during winter when everything is so grey outside, gives me the sense of life. And also the overall color of the rug fits perfectly into my love of neutral colors.

    We talk a lot about how every knot in a Bunyaad rug is tied by hand but we were recently reminded that we don’t often talk about HOW every knot is tied.
    Our rugs use primarily two types of knots: the Senna knot and the Turkish knot.

    The Senna knot is an asymmetrical knot and is used in the majority of our rugs, from Persians to Chobi tribals. It is virtually formed with a figure 8 around two warp threads.

    The Turkish knot is also tied around two warp threads but instead of a figure 8, it is a knot where both ends of the wool come out together instead of on either side of one warp thread, like the Senna knot.

    Top 3 Concerns of Many Rug Customers

    Amir explains bunyaad rugs.When working in the rug room, we hear many of the same fears over and over again and yet by the time most folks leave, they have some peace of mind. Are these some of your concerns?

    1. How will I ever decide from all of these rugs?

    I think this is my all-time favorite concern. Folks walk up to the rug piles with their dimensions and fabric samples in hand, leave out a heavy sigh and proclaim they don’t know how they’ll ever narrow down their choices with so many rugs in our rug room to choose from.

    Honestly, our rug piles can look daunting with over 25 different styles of rugs to choose from and sizes ranging from 2’x3′ to 10’x14′.

    With each customer, we explain that as we look together we will go through all piles that are of interest to them, starting from the top and flipping down to the bottom of the pile. As we bring the rugs back down again, ones that are of interest will get rolled and laid on the floor for customers to compare side by side.

    Wedding on a Rug If Natalie Merchant’s twirling days from the 10,000 Maniacs could be translated into a rug, that would be my style. My husband, on the other hand, is the type of guy that that never lets a beard/moustache growing project get the slightest bit untrimmed, perfects the blue shirt look and shines his daily wear shoes. So, how in the world would we find a rug that spoke to both of us, that represented both of us and in turn represented us as a couple?

    Natural Dye for Eggs and Rugs

    Have you ever tried your hand at dyeing eggs with natural dyes?

    Naturally dyeing eggs is truly a labor of love. It speaks to my instilled love for eating healthy. Collecting and prepping all the ingredients like onion peels, purple cabbage and chopped beets shows dedication. Allowing the eggs to simmer in their dye bath for 30 minutes or even overnight for truly stunning deep colors is worth the wait.

    When I look at our naturally dyed Chobi Tribal rugs and our Kazak Tribals, I have a new appreciation for the amount of work that goes into producing one of these rugs.

    Naturally dyed chobi rugs are roughly 100 knots per square inch but take the same amount of production time as their Persian counterparts at over 500 knots per square inch.

    The preparation for getting a Chobi on the loom is over half of the time needed for the rug’s production, where as it takes less than 10% of the total production time of a Persian to get it on the loom.
