Gulab Jamun Bundt Cake
Enjoy Bunyaad Marketplace’s online cooking time where this month we’ll be making Gulab Jamun Bundt Cake, a marbled cake crafted to taste like the quintessential Pakistani dessert. We’ll intertwine cardamom, saffron and rose petals to make this delicious sweet that only gets better with time (if it lasts!) This recipe is an adaption of two different recipes, one from my dear friend, an Italian woman originally from Philadelphia now living in Lititz, Pennsylvania, and another from my dear friend from Montreal, Quebec, who taught me not to be scared of the bundt pan.
Like our Kashan Persians that may all have the same name but who vary greatly due to the ethnic and family heritage of each rug artisan, this cake recipe came to our family with our unique combination of heritages and it morphed into this favorite cake. Perfect for holiday mornings, this cake can easily be frozen and later thawed for gatherings and celebratory mornings.
This cake base also lends itself to some variations on the theme that we’ll tempt you with as well!
Cook along or just watch as we weave stories of rugs, Pakistani artisans & fair trade into our cooking. Now that we’re traveling more with work, Cooking with Bunyaad is held once a month, usually on a Sunday. Please join our mailing list to get notifications of our free, online cooking times.
